Always use a recommended trader and obtain references before you go ahead and give him or her a contract to undertake any work or service for you.
Never use a trader who turns up at your home uninvited and claims you need work done on your house.
Never let anybody in your house you do not know unless they have some identity that if need be you can check by phoning his or her employers. If having building work undertaken ask to see work previously undertaken.
Always obtain at least 3 quotes before offering a contract for the work to be undertaken.

Below is a sample of work carried out in a property own by William Sutton Homes by a contractor employed by APOLLO Kitchens Borehamwood
The pictures here need no explanation and this kitchen has been like this for 8 weeks. Unfinished paintwork and paint on the lino. The customer has been waiting 7 weeks for a fresh unit, and the job to be completed.
We can confirm that the majority of the tradesman that were sub contracted by APOLLO are very good at their job, its their management that are in the opinion of many that are incompetent and unreliable.
The qualified plumber who came to unblock a sink in a retirement home armed with only a pencil and a mobile phone
Other complaints include
1. a lady who took two weeks vacation Apollo were due to start but they never turned up during that 2 weeks .they said they would
2. After completion of another kitchen several units fell off the wall
3. The painting was so bad full of streaks
4.Tiles did not fit properly
5. lots of paint left on the floor
6. Did not start on time
7 Promised date of starting did not materialize
8.Wrong units fitted
9. Waiting for unit for almost 2 months

The VIOLA water company that refused to take responsibility for a water leak outside a residents home. The council and water company would not accept responsibility. Following threats of legal action the water company carried out the task of repairing the leak., that was their responsibility all in the first place since the leak was on the pavement outside the residents property. It had taken the water company over 6 weeks from the date the leak had been reported for them to repair the leak.
A local hair salon in Borehamwood caused bleech tio damge a customers blouse and they did not want to accept responsibility it was their fault, though it was obvious when she left the salon the blouse was damaged, and was easily seen by other people. PS this is not any of the currently promoted hair salons on this web site
The computer engineer who gave a estimate of a maximum price and increased his fee after completing the job by 50% more than once he increased his price from his maximum estimate to at least two customers.

ROYAL MAIL Having posted out 20 letters before Christmas only 16 of them reached their destination. All letters were posted on the 13th December and by the 28th 4 had not been delivered that is 20% of my mail not received by people in the UK

UBS We have had so many complaints about this bus service that runs out of Borehamwood. Complaints include driving too fast, harsh breaking and failure to stop and closing the door as passengers are about to get on-board. I have complained to them but they can't be bothered to reply in a satisfactory manner. Asking me to repeat what I have written in my Email. I did repeat what i had said and not had a reply from them. since summer 2011
THE BIN MEN WHO DON'T EMPTY THE BINS
I am getting too many complaints about the Hertsmere refuse collection service , Too many times now the drivers fail to empty the bins. This scenario has been going on for far too long not months but years. Also I have had 3 complaints about the accidents caused by their drivers who fail to report it. Thankfully on on all occasions they were witnessed but it seems they did not want to report the accidents until pressured into doing so. What a bunch of cowboys. We pay our community charges for a service that is not good enough.
We have had a number of complaints about mail order companies and internet sellers.
People having money taken out of their accounts before delivery of products which often are not sent. Returning faulty goods and mail order companies deny that the goods were received back at their premises.
My advice is do not buy from mail order companies or on the internet. See what you purchase by buying from a retailer

Having ordered take away food from Seashells near Radlett the customers was told they would receive their order in 30 to 40 minutes.
The food turned up after 85 minutes and it was cold. despite the driver saying it was not cold.
Apparemntl;y the driver got lost and went to several other homes before returning to SEASHELLS and trying again. Driver claimed he could not see the house number that was clearly wriiten on the wall of the house in numbers 1 foot high and the courtesy light on.
The chips tasted as if they had been reheated a few times.
The customer says she will never use them again.

DODGEY GARAGES
We have had a number of complaints about garages in Borehamwood (not in Tried and trusted) that are charging for services that is not carried out properly.
Also from london an MOT garage that failed a car on loose bushes. the guy who took the car in was himself a mechanic and his colleague also a qulified motor engineer confirmed the bushes were perfect. A case of looking for unneccesery work. The guy wiped the bushes clean and took the car back for a retest and it passed.
