Dear Sir,
I often get frustrated that I have to phone my doctor's surgery on an 0844 number that costs more than a local call. Often I am kept waiting a very long time. I suppose it could be OK for people who have an income from their employment but for me on a pension it is extra cost, I wonder why they have a high priced number to phone. The receptionist says its to avoid time wasters.

Editor's comment
It seems its a way of making extra income for the practice. Thankfully not all Surgeries have an 0844 number. If this cost is a severe burden i suggest you change to a doctor who has a local number. Unless of course you are happy with the service and care from your present surgery.

Dear Editor
I am amazed at the inconsideration of some people re disabled parking bays. I know that some bays are optional. Consideration should be given that the bay is for a disabled person to use not for the able bodied. I have also noticed people using the official disabled bays who are able bodied. Last week in the supermarket I saw this man get out of his car parked in a disabled bay and run in pursuit of another driver. I saw a disabled badge in the car and the photo was of him. Surely if a person is disabled they are not able to run. Yet alone walk very far. How do these people get a disabled blue badge. Do they lie or maybe they have stolen it and copied it. This abuse should stop and the police should be more vigilant is sorting out the culprits.

Dear Ediitor
Doctor's surgeries that use a premium number that we have to phone and they  keep you waiting on line for such a long time so your call could cost cost you up to £2.00 plus per call which is not fair on pensioners who have limited income and more likely to require the services of a Doctor more often.

Dear Editor
I would like to tell you about a wonderful neighbour who lives in GIBBONS CLOSE, her name is KEELEY and she resides at NO.9 GIBBONS CLOSE BOREHAMWOOD HERTS WD6 4TF. Her next door neighbour at No.10 Gibbons Close needed quite a lot of help as she had to attend the hospital five days a week for treatment. Fortunately for this lady by the name of KATINA who lives at No.10 Gibbons Close, her wonderful neighbour/friend came to her immediate rescue and without any hesitation and no excuses took Katina on a regular daily basis to the Hospital for the necessary treatment which has saved her life and now she can live her life to the fullest withg the wonderful help and support of this young woman called KEELEY. Sorry I dont know the surname. I reckon she deserves high recognition for the help and support she has given Katina by being there for her and serving her every need. Where can anyone find such a wonderful neighbour/friend such as this woman, you tell me?
Yours truly

To the Editor of Tried and trusted
John Cartledge has made a very personal attack on me re ACP in the B/wood Times last week.  it is online as well as in the paper.

To set the record straight Clive Butchins and I have sent 2 replies.
i reproduce The replies here.   The 12 bids received will be shortlisted on Thurs 5/5/11 I do not know when the next round is.  There are 4 people on the panel whom I assume will make recommendations then to the Herts CC Environment Committee and hence to the Herts CC ruling cabinet.

 My response
I totally disagree with John Cartledge in his summation about Aldenham Country Park.  As Friends and Aldenham Country Park Trust we took legal, financial and business advice and as trustees could not commit money we did not have.  We could not go forward with a bid to manage the park alone without the finances in place or the certainty that we could generate that finance not for one year but for the entire lease period.  Far from waving the white flag we looked at what options were open to us and decided that we would want to be involved in the management of the Park with the successful applicant.

There are 12 bids with County for shortlisting 5/5/11.  Some of those applicants approached us directly.  We are the community involvement requested in the Herts CC application pack, having support from many local groups and organisations.  We drew up a Memorandum of Understanding to reflect our charitable objects which seek to to retain the informal recreation aspect of the park, free access, the conservation and preservation of habitats, promotion of education for adults and children and those with learning and/or physical disabilities.  We have funds available to promote these objects and volunteers to help on a range of identified projects.

TheTrustees of Aldenham Country Park are certain that Herts County Council will ensure that local involvement will play a big part in going forward to make the park venture sustainable, viable and suit the needs of the populace.

Sorry John we still have a huge commitment to maintain the park in a similar manner to that which we have been used.  Some changes will be made but we have to trust the judgement of the panel that have been entrusted with getting the best deal for residents for a very public asset.

"As someone who has worked closely with Councillor Pat Strack on the Friends of Aldenham Country Park committee, I felt that John Cartledge's unnecessarily partisan attack was totally out of order. At all times we were at pains to ensure that Friends was as non-partisan and inclusive as possible, and although we all worked hard to find a way to 'save' the park, Cllr Strack probably put in more hours than any of us. And I know she is as passionate as any of us about keeping as many of the park's features as possible. If Mr Cartledge is really concerned about what happens at Aldenham Country Park, why has he not joined 'Friends' or, even better, offered his services to the committee?

Perhaps he should look closer to home when sniping about cuts having to made when it is ultimately the result of government overspending over a number of years, and he has obviously never come across the technique employed by a certain Mr. Blair in negotiation peace in Northern Ireland.

In any case we are still very hopeful that we shall be able to work with the bidder chosen to take over the park, so long as they agree to work within our charitable 'objects', which place usage by our community at their heart"

Dear Editor
I was upset to be woken up late at night  by a policeman at my front door..I thought it might be about my elderly mother. It was not; it was just to ask me if  I had seen a young man in my garden, he was later found dead in the woods. So late at night seeing a policeman on your doorstep is not good. I am living on my nerves as it is.

JEREMY CLARKSON BIG MOUTH
Sack him let him feel the the hardship of being out of work. I hope nobody will employ him and if he is in an accident I hope the doctors and nurses keep him waiting in a coldest room they can find and after 48 hours maybe they can treat him unless he had passed out or in a comma. will the doctors put him on a life support system or conveniently not be able to find one. His remarks are so sick it just goes to show what a sick person lives in his body. We have not forgotten his remarks about Gordon Brown call him a one eyed idiot. If anybody is an idiot it is him. He is worse than the lady who used racists remarks on the tram in Croydon. She will be prosecuted, but I bet that Clarkson will get away with it as he has friends in high places. But not as high as God he will have to answer to him for his sick remarks. His behavior is on a par with Addolf Hitler.

BEARSAC RESCUE

I need to see if the British Embassy or press can help. I know it is a very slim chance but if they see his website, that he has met celebrities; are told of my book 'Travels With My Teddy Bear' and that
I have Asperger's Syndrome they might help if pushed hard enough.
I don't know if the police are really working on this or just telling me so to keep me happy. I have limited use of internet when I can get it and roming charges are expensive on my mobile so I want to a voice
long phone calls o the press and embassies. If the press or embassy needs it the mobile number of the policeman at Makambako is + 255
(0)7555 01618. The policeman is called Rogasian Mahunnah and works in the Tanzania department criminal investigation department. They tend
to call teddy bears dolly the same as dolls but spell it doli or mdoli.

Information
As part of an 11 week Southern hemisphere trip I was on the train from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya,Tanzania. This took place whilst the train was just leaving the village of Kinyanguru at about 8.05am Tanzanian time on 3rd December. The nearest town is Makambako where the onboard police officer reported the incident. I tried to jump out of the window to get Bearsac back but was thankfully stopped.
The police and village chief think they know who the man was as he was boasting about taking Bearsac from a white woman on the train (he didn't say 'Bearsac' of course)! They think they knew where had gone and tried to locate him at a paper mill they had heard he might have gone to to find work to arrest him (dropping the case at my request
when I get Bearsac back. However he is on the run now. I was told that he man who took Bearsac was working as a porter (possibely not officially) and lives in Makambako. I was told that his family have
told him if he brings back the teddy bear the case will be dropped. I don't know if the police would stick to that or not.
I last heard from the police officer on 18th December and they had no further information but said they will let me know when they find him.
I don't know if they are still looking into it or ever where.I never got a case number but I think it was just rail police.

I realise that Bearsac might now be with a child and that it might be hard for the child to give him up. However, to the child it is just any old teddy bear. I would give the child another teddy bear (a more
cuddly one than scraggy old Bearsac)!

This might sound a little fanciful but I was thinking if it might be possible to start a sort of appeal where a collection of teddy bears be taken to the village for the children bears (and more useful items).

I am currently in Santiago but am leaving on the 12th for Mendoza in Argentina and then Buenos Aires. I have to make my way overland to Rio de Janeroi will fly to Heathrow on the 9th Feb arriving on the 10th Feb.

Thank you from Debra
